Final Assignment

FINAL ASSIGNMENT – HUMOUR 9 ENGLISH by Jon Yoo
The given URL leads to one of the Annoying Orange videos. In all Annoying Orange videos, the protagonist, Orange, annoys various types of fruits by relentlessly talking and making fun of their appearance, name, or personality.
The given video features Orange talking to Apple. It is outrageously hilarious because Orange annoys Apple by calling his name endlessly. Moreover, when Orange draws Apple’s attention, Orange makes jokes using his and Apple’s characteristics. For example, Orange says that Apple is fruity. This is funny because the word, fruity, is an adjective which is used to describe something that resembles fruits. Since Apple is already a fruit, the word, fruity, becomes meaningless. Another example is when Orange says, ‘Orange you glad I said Apple again?’ When that phrase is spoken out loud, it sounds like, ‘Aren’t you glad I said Apple again?’ By using his own name, Orange was able to create a joke.
The video definitely has comedy of manners. Comedy of manner uses clever language in order to create humor. In the video, Orange uses language skillfully in order to make clever jokes. The video also contains small amount of low comedy. At the end of the video, Apple gets sliced by an anonymous hand. This scene contains low comedy.
The final assignment was enjoyable for me. I enjoyed watching funny videos while in progress of finding my ‘funny item.’ But it was rather hard for me to decide on my ‘funny item’ because almost all of the videos and images that I found were hilarious. On the other hand, it was easy to work on the assignment once I made up my mind. Overall, this assignment was one of the most entertaining assignments given in the year.

Jack votes for the Conservative Party of Canada

In the book, ‘Lord of the Flies’, a group of young boys is stranded on an island. At first, they focus on being rescued and create fire signals. As time passes, however, the boys are persuaded by Jack and begin to focus on defending themselves from the ‘monster.’ The villain of the book, Jack, is the leader of his tribe. He considers hunting to be more important than sending fire signals because it prevents his tribe from starving. Jack would vote for the Conservative Party of Canada because their ideas are similar to his.
Jack and the Conservative Party of Canada have similar ideas to one another. From the beginning, Jack focuses on supporting the group of boys. He forms a group of hunters to hunt wild pigs on the island. Likewise, the Conservative Party of Canada proposes to support families through “Family Tax Cut” (The Conservative Party of Canada). Moreover, the Conservative Party of Canada values investments in Canadian Armed Forces (The Conservative Party of Canada). Jack leaves Ralph’s group and forms his own tribe. He persuades Ralph’s group of boys to join his tribe in order to strengthen his tribe. Like the Conservative Party of Canada, his tribe guards itself from the ‘monster.’

Lit Circle Activity 2

Lit Circle Activity # 2
The issue in the book, “Lord of the Flies” written by William Golding, is that a group of young children are stuck on an unknown island. Although they enjoy their freedom at the very beginning, they struggle to find shelter, food, and other things that are needed for survival without any adults to guide them in the island. Moreover, they struggle the most at finding a true leader. All the problems lead to an issue which is that the children need to adapt to a completely different environment from what they have previously been living in.
At 3/11/2011, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 struck Japan. The earthquake also triggered a massive tsunami which engulfed boats, buildings, and homes for the Japanese people. Due to this event, 13,130 were killed with 13,718 missing without knowing whether they are alive or not. Moreover, even for those 150,000 people who managed to survive, they lost their houses and jobs. Although the earthquake is over, the worst is yet to come for Japan is still in danger because of exposing of radiation from the damaged nuclear power plants.
The issue in the book, “Lord of the Flies,” is significantly similar to the current Japan’s. In the book, “Lord of the Flies,” the main issue is that the children need to adapt and survive in an environment which they have never been in before. The issue is same with Japan. In Japan, tens of thousands of people need to adapt to their current situation both physically and mentally. For both issues, only time will solve their problems. The children stuck on the island need to wait for a rescue and Japan need to wait for everything to be back to normal.

Picture for summary

In the book, "Lord of the Flies", a boat which a group of boys were in crashes onto an island in which no person lives. The protagonists, Piggy and Ralph, gather the scattered members of the ship by blowing a conch which makes a loud noise. This picture represents the summary of the book I have read so far because the gathered group of boys vote Ralph to be their leader.
